Shaquia L. Ballard, LLMSW

Shaquia works with children (age 10+), adolescents, and men and women of all ages providing individual therapy, group therapy (emphasis on self-awareness, emotional regulation and coping skills), family therapy and couples counseling. Shaquia treats people who experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, identity concerns, life adjustment difficulties, stress management, mood disorders, and career concerns.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Shaquia is a Limited Licensed Master Social Worker with a Bachelors degree in English from Michigan State University and Master’s Degree in Social Work (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy concentration), from Wayne State University. Shaquia has experience providing counseling at-risk youth in residential treatment, out-patient treatment, and in school settings,  and working with adults across a broad socio-economic spectrum. Shaquia initiates and participates in various community outreaches, has provided quality assurance assessments for community programs, and has been featured on the Motor City Woman Radio Show highlighting the importance of mental health to women.

Shaquia views therapy as a collaborative process with patients to address personal, career, social, and academic issues, while promoting personal and family wellness. Shaquia employs a cognitive behavioral therapy approach to help individuals be aware of the impact of thoughts and emotions on behaviors. Shaquia utilizes a client-centered and goal oriented approach in her efforts to engage patients in self-healing, personal growth, and self-actualization.
